回到了最純粹的喜歡: Jazz vocal Diana Panton

台灣的音樂進一步入侵這個城市的音樂市場同時, 我反而少聽華語音樂, 重新開始聽英語音樂。不熟悉英語音樂圈的生態, 獨立與主流的分野對我來說並沒有太大意義, 歌手的包裝行銷我也沒有太關心, 反倒更專注在音樂本身。

聽音樂又重回了當初最單純的初衷。

這一年開始留意加拿大爵士歌手Diana Panton, 一開始聽她的歌聲是書店在播放的聖誕合輯, 聲音多獨特好聽。上網找她的歌, youtube 居然沒有太多她的歌, 更不要說是不載。在台灣買了她2009年的專輯Pink, 後來又在Hong Kong Records找到她一千零一張的唱片, 是她第一張發的專輯Yesterday Perhaps。

喜歡她的聲音很甜很乾淨, 很適合唱爵士樂。把她的唱片放在CD機裡, 整個空間都悠閒起來。

我不熟悉爵士樂, 不知道她相比其他歌手是的水準如何, 也不知道她自己的作品是否出眾, 翻唱別人的作品又能否唱出自己的個性。

於是, 聽音樂又回到了自己最純粹、最直覺的喜歡與不喜歡。

借韋禮安得新人獎時說過的一句, 音樂跟藝術沒有勝負與優劣, 只有喜好。

從別人的歌到自己的音樂: Elaine - Odi Acoustic

曾經以為我所聽到的所有歌曲都可以在互聯上找到影片和歌詞, 原來不是。

最近迷上一個德國的one man band, 名叫 odi acoustic。他的名字叫 Lukas Odenthal, 因為喜歡美國搖滾組合Blink 182 的歌, 重新編曲, 自己寫和聲, 自彈自唱, 讓本來搖滾的歌曲增添了一份簡樸的味道, 歌曲聽起來就像他自己的民謠。

後來Lukas 開始自己寫歌並推出個人專輯Time is a stranger。就一把結他、一把聲音, 就足夠創作出真誠的音樂。

我其實最喜歡Islands那首歌, 但連歌詞也找不到。找到另一首喜歡的作品。

來自七十年代的憂傷: Goodbye to Love - The Carpenters

百聽不厭的聲音裡面, 一定包括The Carpenters。女主唱karen carpenters 來得快, 去得更快。在我未懂什麼是厭食症的時候, 便有人告訢我她是厭食症離世的。

初次接觸The Carpenters的 Top of the World的時候, Karen Carpenter 已經去世了很多年。細聽那張精選大碟, rainy days and monday, yesterday once more, close to you, 還有 sing, 一直聽一直唱。幾年前曾經把唱片放在朋友私家車的音響裡, 讓那帶點滄桑的聲音伴我走看過許多風景。

今天電腦隨機播放那幾年沒好好細聽的聲音, 絕響總能喚起一種淡淡的憂傷, 而且那種憂傷是人愈大才愈懂。

錯過了六七十年代英文流行曲的黃金時代, 現在看那時候的服飾、再細聽大樂隊伴奏, 還有那時的唱腔, 是時代感。簡單直接的旋律歌詞依然動人, 全因人性永遠不會過時。

想來想去, 還是覺得人生離不開愛這個大主題。

如果每個人的人生是千萬個選擇交結而成的結果, 我想love 是那千絲萬縷背後的動力, 無論你愛的是自己、別人或是一種信仰裡的內容。

別人的歌我會唱 之男歌男唱- Backstreet Boys and Vienna Boys: Get Down - Vienna Boys' Choir

如果將乖男孩裡的壞男孩釋放出來？


十年前推出的vienna boys goes pop，重新演繹改篇大熱流行曲作品。今天不談crossover的目的,專輯一如所料引起不少迴響，反應兩極，有聽眾覺得那是一個好的嘗試，讓傳統的維也納兒童合唱團煥然一新，帶來新鮮感，亦有聽慣合唱團的聽眾覺得專輯刺耳。


專輯收錄了多首經典流行作品，像my heart will go on, eternal flame等, 但整張專輯最為人驚訝的大概是翻唱backstreet boys 的 get down。


Backstreet boys 一聽名字大概可以猜出他們走的路線，十多年前走紅的少男組合曾經迷倒全球不少少男少女，他們帥氣，純情稚氣中帶一點不羈、反叛。


Get down是當年一大熱作品，第一次聽vienna boys 的演唱差點大嚇一跳。接近完美的男童聲像朗誦一般大唱you are the one for me, you are my ecstasy， 有種逼著好學生做壞事的感覺，ecstasy這個字怎麼會出自vienna boys的口？唱慣古典聖詩的他們突然變成後街男孩，放下神聖變回凡夫俗子對著女生大唱豪不害羞地大唱情歌，大喊hey baby love I need a girl like you。這樣還不夠，還要中間有一段rap，bang bang bang, here we come here we slam. 實在夠驚嚇。第一次聽簡直覺得一首get down平白把vienna boys 給毀了, 是"尷生"把乖男孩變成壞男孩, 但他們都壞不起來。


可是，看專輯的製作特輯，儘管是德語，還是看得出一群小男生當年雀躍地錄製唱片。看見他們手舞足動地大唱get down，起勁地rap起來, 想起他們著實也是十多歲的小男生, 平時住在寄宿學校, 接受著規律的精英培訓, 修心養性地學習傳統音樂, 著實有點像少林寺。難得有機會作新嘗試, 大概是件刺激的事。    


而且get down 不就正正為少男少女們寫的嗎? 每個乖男孩裡面都住著一個叛逆的小男孩, 我想像這群踏入反叛年紀的精英也許也壓抑了太久了吧。

華麗的視覺在真誠的音樂裡是多餘的: I'm Yours - Jason Mraz

Jason Mraz 就是 Jason Mraz, 只需一把結他、一台鋼琴, 還有一隊伴奏的樂隊, 頂多陪以一個多才多藝的女伴唱, 就夠了。

其他的, 都顯得可有可無。

無需豪華的舞台, 不需要煙火, 甚至連台上那個用來播animation的backdrop都近乎可有可無, 更無需像婚宴般從頭到腳換裝幾遍, 一時典雅, 一時cyber, 就這麼一身優閑便服牛仔褲, 配一頂招牌的帽子, 更無需九唔搭八的嘉賓壓場,

他一樣能夠征服全場觀眾。

他的音樂就是不是讓人high 翻天, 就是讓人感動、微笑。從 Everything is sound, Lucky, The woman I love, Be Honest, A Beautiful Mess, 到 Butterfly, You and I both, Frank D Fixer 一直到必唱的 Mr Curiosity, I'm Yours, 到最後93 million miles, I won't give up。

兩個半小時絕無冷場, 跟唱片錄音一樣的唱功, 不一樣的是用心跟多變的編曲, 還有他的個人魅力。You and I both 的小故事讓人微笑, 現場聽Mr Curiosity還是讓人驚艷, 全場觀眾大合唱 I'm yours, 更是讓大家high翻天。

華麗的視覺在真誠的音樂裡是多餘的。

最近躲懶, 連這邊也疏懶了。不想亂寫一通, 但又無暇整理心思。日復日, 生活過得有點狼狽。

忙而不亂是一直需要學習的功課。生活讓人煩擾的事總停不了, 但環顧身邊自己擁有的人和物質, 覺得生活不止不賴, 而是很不錯。決定少一點憂慮與牢騷, 其實一直也應該這樣, 只是習以為常過後又忘掉。

語言怎麼可以這麼美? 思緒怎麼可以這麼美?

簡單但美麗如詩的歌詞, 再多的形容和註腳突然顯得多餘。Steven Dunston "Hymns about her"的這張專輯, 沒有複雜的編曲, 只有溫柔的鋼琴和真誠的歌聲, 幾乎所有歌曲都彌漫著一種安靜的氛圍。

但卻正正因為安靜, 歌曲帶來比喧鬧更震撼的力量。Piano is forte。

美國小城的聲音: New Orleans - Emily Hearn

開車三小時便能到達的地方, 在美國來說, 不是近, 是很近, 美國就是這麼大。

一個在小鎮的歌手, 怎麼能夠讓自己的知名度開始從自己的小鎮和最鄰近的城市開始一直提升, 再到其他城市, 再到全國, 一直到國外? 沒有大公司的強勢宣傳, 始乎是不可能的是。新媒體的出現無疑改變了這個局面, 讓身在地球另一端的我有機會聽到來自美國東南部小城的聲音。

Emily Hearn的聲音很耐聽, 演繹歌曲上的處理也不錯。

閱讀她的網頁, 知道她來自喬治亞州小城Griffin, 在Athens出生。在google map上找找才知道Georgia原來也有個Athens。Griffin 和Athens都應該是小城, 雖然我們已經踏入網站和youtube爆炸的年代, 有機會透過網路聽到這位獨立唱作的小女生唱歌對我來說還是某程度上的不可思異。

我很少主動了解一個歌手的出身, 除了因為Athens這個小城讓我想起希臘外, 也因為new orleans這首歌。New Orleans以美國的標準來說算是大城市了吧, 但我想相比起new york, san francisco, LA, chicago, 應該不算太大, 也不算特別有名。若不是颶風Katrina, 關心美國南部的人應該不太多, 至少在地球另一邊的我對New Orleans的認識幾乎是零。不相信這個城市的名字會出現在美國以外的歌曲, 令我對這個城市跟這首歌起了點興趣, 我甚至在google map上面找了一下Griffin跟new orleans的距離。這首歌其實沒有讓我更認識這個城市, 卻讓我接近迷信地相信這就是讓我繼續發掘與聆聽不同聲音的理由。

忘憂城市: Runaway - Linkin Park

這個城市似乎愈來愈不知所謂了。

首先要回答的是, 這個城市的不知所謂是今天才開始? 還是它一直存在, 只是我們現在知道的多了?

情況就像有鋁窗高空墮地的那一陣子, 突然每天都有類似新聞, 彷彿所有鋁窗一呼百應應聲而下。也許是媒體作的祟吧。對於傳媒, 大家永遠又愛又恨, 既感謝它將隱藏黑暗的真相釋放出來, 又覺得它跟城市的其實東西一樣, 愈來愈不像樣了。

愈來愈不像樣倒好, 有些東西是從來不像樣的, 像政客。

每一個人都像裁判, 站在道德高地評論那些用一個謊來完另一個謊的人, 大家相不相信不重要, 反正話說了出來才會變成歷史, 沒有說過的, 無從證實也就彷彿沒存在過。政治是赤裸的, 是對權力、名利最根本的渴望, 有時倒佩服政客, 能忍受讓所有人一眼看穿自己內心的貪婪與慾望。

只是看穿了醜惡的觀眾, 除了嗤之以鼻還可以做什麼? 面對悶到發慌的互揭瘡疤和對罵, 除了無力感還剩什麼? 但無力感, 從來不是因為我們沒有民主的制度, 不是因為我們不能一人一票選出領袖。無力感永遠來自那根深柢固的思想, 就是個人的力量不能改變什麼。

無能為力的我們, 始終需要忍受那不像樣的政治與政客, 因為我們需要明白政治是文明的產物, 也是人性。

也許我們需要忘憂草。

忘掉那些謊言, 忘掉那些不知羞的臉孔, 忘掉那些最赤裸的權力慾, 讓我們可以避開無理取鬧, 逃回我們喜歡的園地, 找間漂亮的餐廳食一頓好的、轉個電視台看看美食節目或乾脆關掉電影播放喜歡的音樂... 忘憂的方法很多。我們追求那讓我們快樂的, 我們尋找自己的興趣, 忘掉那累人的現實, 尋找自己的小天地。

然而, 有一天我們會發現, 無論我們的興趣有多脫離現實, 要超脫要進步, 我們還是得回到思想這一塊, 因為追求的極致永遠源於思想, 思想需要自由, 自由就是釋放, 是不甘心被操控, 是掙脫那像框一樣的現實和現狀。

我們在樂園裡繞了一圈, 還是發現政治像空氣, 慘透每一個空間, 不能躲避, 也同時發現, 我們其實不那麼想要忘憂草。

因為我們已經回不去了。嘗過思想的自由, 我們回不去了。我們沒法忍受忘了自己是誰, 無法失去自我。看見北韓人民為所謂領導人哭到要生要死, 我們簡直覺得操控別人的思想是如此邪惡的一件事, 還有被洗腦是如此可怕。

到頭來, 寧願繼續邊看邊罵, 拿起搖控器, 轉回新聞台。

無能為力, 但至少相比歷史上無數個賠上了幾百萬人性命的政治決定, 不像樣的政治和政客還未影響我們的生存和生活, 我還未需要忘憂草。

我不想關心, 也想什麼都不管, 卻矛盾的相信在真正需要忘憂草之前, 很多事情, 我需要知道, 儘管它有多不知所謂。

偶然清醒、偶然忘憂是這個城市的生存條件。

幾乎沒有聽英文歌的那幾年, 記得的英文歌不多。那一年身在外地, 閒逛時裝店, 電視在播著這個有趣的MV。簡單好聽的歌, 就這樣, 記下來。是文化吧, 用中文寫一次這一首歌的詞, 大概會肉麻死, 就好像I love you比我愛你容易說出口。

五年前, music and lyrics 放映的時候, 問剛看過電影的朋友, 好看嗎? 朋友二話不說, 傳來這首歌。一聽難忘,  不枉電影叫做music and lyrics。後來看過電影, 還不錯, hugh grant依然帥氣, 故事依然荷李活。

更喜歡這首歌。喜歡hugh grant 和 Haley bennett 的對唱, 喜歡它的旋律、歌詞, 是種不造作的甜蜜。

是聖誕前推出的專輯。 歌曲不算完全與聖誕有關，但mv裡倒是充滿聖誕氣氛。專輯裡也有winter moon獨唱版本，但始終喜歡with puppet friends 的版本。

聽歌曲，你明知道所謂的puppets其實只是幾個男人在伴唱，但聽到一大班人彷彿亂唱的在後面大吼大唱，倒真的像芝麻街裡一大班朋友們在大合唱。

輕鬆節奏下Puppet friends 和 mindy gledhill 的諧趣和唱, 不但可愛, 而且討喜, 尤其喜歡一個玩偶唱著, sing along everybody, 然後全部玩偶一起加入, 氣氛可真愉快。
